In April I was outside in Scotland and I wrote this poem (translated from the Dutch original).

I run from hospital to sea
Still peep in my ear
The morphine pump now
The wigtail that perches
Takes my eyes with him

I can do it like no other
Dissolve in the now
The walls crumble, white coats undone
I am no longer the people doctor
I’m merely human and my world is the sea
Now my hands can feel again
Person to person, skin to skin

Here I can cry again too
Tears dissolve in salt anyway
They are the spur of the waves
Screeching at Elie Ness

""

I turn to the path
Sway softly over the cliff
No more the corridors
Cold as the bare mountain ridge
But now and then, when the raven smiles
And the wind fades
It is the same softening
As when I squeeze her hand
And let her know she can go home

I thought I wanted to be outside
But I just wanted to be together
Maybe one isn’t so different from the other
On a mountain I am seldom alone

There, I share looks and words
I give and take a hand
And the rocks, they breathe feet
Feet that seek grip
Feet that pound and ponder
Feet that wander
And sometimes hands
Hands that clutch
Hands that long
For the little warmth the rock gives

""

//
So here we are
On a rock on the beach
I take your hand
And I wonder
Who are you
And what is this

I do not know
We simply are
Like humans do

""
